There are random spaces in life where we are just doing nothing e.g. waiting for the train, in the toilet etc. This green bear is a product of such spaces. I didn't plan for him to be bleed but I thought he needed some drama to conflict that wide ass smile. haha

The similarities between Digital marketing and Poker are uncannily close. Both are simple activities – accessible, easy to learn and very enjoyable. In fact the Internet is so seamlessly prevalent in our lives that the improvements and evolutions it has affected are now taken for granted.

Everyone lives the Internet, but only a small group of professionals understand the complex technology and the vast exchange of human connections that it invokes.

Similarly poker is an activity that is easy to learn and play but the human complexities and psychological warfare that are involved make it hard to master. 

The Perfect Marriage

A digital marketer, unlike our traditional counterpart, embraces the marriage of a pretty picture (advertisements) and the numeric conversions that follows. They give the cold unfriendly metrics a warm and fuzzy feel by associating it to the behaviors of their target audience.

Poker as a digital marketers recreation activity allows digital marketers to use their analytical skills for both fun and profit (hopefully). Poker is a game primarily based on understanding mathematical probabilities and human psychology.

What are the odds of hitting a flush draw? What is the percentage probability of receiving a pocket pair? Does the current bet and money in the pot give me the right odds to continue? Does the flop and my opponent’s hand decisions make sense?

The Numbers Game

Diving deep into some similar metrics, we have the digital CTR metric (Click through rate), Poker’s version of the CTR is called a VP$IP (Voluntarily put money in the pot). Just like the principal of the CTR and VP$IP is the percentage calculation of how many times a player takes action by contributing money to the game before the public cards are shown.

In SEM or exclusive ad buys, when you purchase expensive keywords or page takeovers, you are paying a premium price for that exclusive SOV. You have to justify that CPC by your conversions attained or CPA (Cost per Acquisition) in relation to your product or service. In poker when you have big cards like Aces, Kings, Queens and Jacks, depending on your position you are willing to pay a premium bet to continue the game because your CPA and your resulting ROI (Return of Investment) is justifiable because you have a higher probability of winning.

Human Insights that kill

Of course numbers alone do not make the game, an in depth understanding of your table competition or in the case of marketing your target audience plays a crucial role in your success as both a poker player and a marketer. 

What makes them tick? Why do they do the things they do? How will they react when placed in a planned situation? How do I appeal to them and influence them?

KPIs and raking in the monies

Of course it comes as no surprise that the end goal/KPI for both poker and marketing is the same and can be summed up in a simple sentence.

“How can I get the most amount of money out from them?”

So if you’re a digital marketer and it’s the weekend or you have some time to kill. Get an online poker account and start dishing out some professional analytical damage! 

Some interesting Poker Probabilities:

• You have a 0.3% chance of getting an AK hand
• You have a 0.9% chance of getting an AA or KK hand
• If you have a suited hand, there is a 11% chance that two more similar suited public cards will be drawn

You would think that at this time and age, such massive destruction and death would be avertable or kept to a minimum.

Poker is an intense mind game, you get mind screwed as much as 200 times an hour. The passive and weak will bleed to death as they slowly wait for an AA, KK (0.9% chance) or AK (1.8% chance) to fall into their hands.  

I've seen my friend Mr Siong an experience TAG player, slice up his competition as his calculated aggression pounded them over and over again. The key word here i believe is "calculated aggression" knowing when to brake and fold when you're obviously beat.

I've always been an ultra passive tight poker player so i'm trying to adopt this poker style and notice the online tells which my opponents show through their bet sizes and behavioural patterns.

REVOK the graffiti artist that got taken down by social media when he twittered all the spots which he bombed while in Australia. 

That been said, REVOK is a kick ass graffiti writer and one of the few personalities that's cool ass down to the rough side of the asphalt road. He's frustrated, aggressive and he's questioning the abuse of the label "Street Culture"

The Nerf Nightfinder 2050 after 24 heroic intergalactic tours in hostile territories!

My first try at Steampunking with my newly acquired acrylic paint from the recent Japan trip. I think I should be ready to start on the Gundam models which Cheryl bought me for Christmas!

Couldn't have started this without the insipiring steampunk paint tutorials on youtube, although it was a pretty freestyle process once I started mixing the paint!
